One of the most interesting stories in the word is about Balaam the soothsayer. He knew the God of the Israelites, but as we read his story we see that there was another idol in his heart.
He was eager to inquire of God when Balak send for him. God forbid him to go to Balak and curse the Israelites. Then Balak sends a bigger convoy with more gifts and promises of riches. Again Balaam ask God if he should go to Balak. This time the motivation (or the idol in his heart) was all the riches and wealth promised to him. God said OK you can go, but speak forth only what I tell you.
In Ezekiel ,we read about these Idols. God tells Ezekiel that the elders before him have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Every such Israelite will be answered by God according to the measure of the multitude of his idols.
Sometimes we come to God in prayer and then there is a preconceived idea in our hearts. We seek not His will for the situation – but an answer that we think fit.
- Ask Him to help you identify and deal with these idols in your heart.
- Submit to Him.
- Let His will be done.
Num 22, Eze 14
