A while back one of my friends asked, "how do you hear the voice of God?" I know the feeling. Actually Christians asked this question a lot. Despite all the technology and communication tools available, people don't know how to communicate with God or recognise His voice.
But it is possible to hear God's voice. And this is God's desire too that we will make time to talk and listen to Him. It is easy to bring our shopping list to God and ask for all that we need. But I should warn you: it takes time to listen to God. But it is not hard to hear him speak . John says: "And they listen to his voice, and he calls them by name and leads them out."
Do you want direction from God? Or do you want Him to just speak into your situation and tell you what to do? God wants more than that for you. He don't want to give you the right answer so that you can go on your way - He wants you to trust Him to lead you out. Trust means building relationship with Him and this is your ultimate purpose, not to get a solution to your problem - but to trust Him to work everything for your good.
What can you do to hear Gods voice:
- Spend time reading the bible everyday. God speak to us trough His word.
- Set aside prayer time. You need enough time to ask and to be quite and focus on God. This may take some practise.
- Write prayers/conversations with God in a journal. This helps us to focus.
- Test what you hear. If what you think God say to you is not in line with what the Bible say I doubt it is from God.
- God sometimes gives God-sized assignments. Most of the time if something is too big for you to accomplish on your own - it is God. He will then accomplish this through you.
Be confident that Gods sheep (his children) will hear His voice. Be confident in the fact that He wants relationship with you and He wants your presence. He loves you!
